Altai
Altai was formed in 1937. Now the Altai Republic is a member of Siberian federal district and is a West-Siberian economic region. The republic consists of 12 cities (including 11 cities of krai subordination), 60 political districts, 14 urban villages, 726 rural administrations and 1 closed administrative and territorial formation, settlement Sibirskiy. In the north and north-west the republic borders upon Altai krai, in the south-west – upon Kazakhstan, in the south – upon China and Mongolia, in the east – upon Tuva and Khakassia, in the north-east – upon Kemerov region. Altai occupies the territory, area of which is 169.1 thousand km². 3.31% of the territory belong to Siberian federal district, and 1% belongs to the Russian Federation.
