Active Rest in Murmansk
Almost all territory of Murmansk region is placed beyond the North Arctic Circle, that make this region so beautiful. There are a lot of forests, tundra, full of rapids salmon rivers, smooth surface of the lakes. These region is for true romantic, who wishes going to the North Pole on icebreaker, catch salmon, come down on ski along snow slopes of Khibini Mountains, see the beauty of under water world of the White and Barents Seas.
In Murmansk are practically possible all kinds of tourism, except «beach», - active fishing and hunting, mountaineering, rock climbing, downhill skiing, backpacking, riding. Here you can have a rest in calm places of taiga and tundra, on the shores of purest rivers. The main sight of this beyond the Arctic circle nature is – Khibini Mountains. The peculiarity of these mountains is that they have a form of table: slopes are steep and even abrupt, and their tops are practically flat.
Kolsky peninsula is unique, interest and unusual peninsula. So in apatites is a famous geological museum. Many tourists come here in oder to see on Kolskaya ultradeep chink, which bored exceptionally for studying old breed rocks of our world. The main Murmansk property is a port. A part of it is available for visiting, here you may watch at legendary icebreakers, in summer you can make a tour of Kolsky bay. In russia «Lapland» is living a Grandfather Frost, his estate is placed in reserve forest, on the coast of Chunozero. He leads his guest along ecological path, showing them squirrels and birds, which you never find in the city park. Walking you may meet with way of building some snow constructions and drive on sleigh following the snowmobile.

Murmansk environs and Kolsky peninsula are picturesque, that's why the issues of nature protection are devoted a great attention. On Kolsky peninsula were created a lot of wildlife preservers and nature keeping zones, in connection with the ecotourism was rapidly developed. For instance, on the north part of region, where Murmansk is placed, were opened a wildlife preserve «Vuvsky» for keeping inhabitation places of caribou; wildlife preserve for organization of caribous' winterings, state nature reserve «Pasvik», where are grown the north forests, hunting wild preserve «Tulomsky» for keeping and reproduction wild animals' species. But more interest of Kolsky centre is represented the «Lappic state biospheric reserve. This reserve is located on south of Murmansk. It is the second size reserve in European part of Russia. Since 1985 year Lappic reserve became the biospheric reservation of UNESCO. It was created for nature protection of taiga and mountain tundra of Kolsky peninsula, and also for protection of caribous.
Murmansk region became one of the main direction for extreme tourism long ago. There are situated a lot of massif at the center of region, natives call them as tundras: Monchetundra, Salnie, Volchie, Lovoxerskie, Khibini tundras. Khibini tundras is famous place for rock climbing and backpacking. They reach 1200 metres in high. Centre of Khibini is Kirov town. Having passed numerous routes of these mountains, one can meet with villages and native people of the region and
admire the scenery, presented arctic and suarctic plants. Many routes leads from north – east to the place of lakes and distinctive villages.
The most largest lakes of this region are Lovozero and Umbozero. There are placed some offices of Murmansk museum of local lore. At the village Lovozero is located the museum of kolsk Sami. Exposition of the museum tells about way of life local people – Sami, Komi and Nenets. The museum has a unique stone with drawings – petroglyphs, which ages are more than three thousands years. At the village Umbozero there are the museum of culture and coast - dwellers way of life. Coast – dwellers od Terskoy coast are famous, that they firs created field tackle, for more comfortable dwelling and clothes, were engaged in embroidery, woodcutting, lacing and sewed festal suits.
Murmansk region is famous as one of the ski sport centre of Russia. There are three comfortable ski complexes. In the north part of town is placed a recreation center «South slope». Rope tow brings tourists to the traces. The length of this slope is about 600 metres. Besides, there is a trace for descending on swimming bladder. Ski center «Murmansk fire» has a ski, snowboard and swimming bladder slopes. Their length is 1000-1500 m. Heights drop is about 200 m. Ski complex «Nord Star» is located in south part of Murmansk, the slope length reaches 1 km, and height drop – 130m. Two rope tows are available at this complex with length – 300 and 730 metres. In summer ski complexes are available too, and propose active rest – fishing, riding on horses, backpacking, paintball and others entertainments. The most popular region of for driving are placed in Khibini Mountains, close Kirovsk town, there are also traces in Kandalakshsky and Monchegarsky regions.
Waters of Kolsky peninsula are true paradise for fishermen. Here in numerous rivers and lakes dwells bass, pike, roach, cisco, salmon, bulltrout, trout, loach, burbot. In Murmansk environs among fishermen is popular river – Pecha – river's Tuloma tributary, which flows into Kolsky bay. Special interest has salmon fishing, license terms for fishing - from15th of June to 15th of September. It should remember, that fishermen must form the license.
