Alexandrov
The town Alexandrov – is the largest cultural centre of Vladimir region. On the emblem of the town are imaged two anvils and vices. These symbols are evidence of one most ancient work of citizens - blacksmith's work.
Alexandrov is located on the picturesque place, richen «nesterovskie» landscapes: soft ridges, well – shaped firs and birches. Beyond white walls and towers of stone fence, at the central part of the town, risen the heads of old churches: the constructions of Alexandrovskoy Slobodi – is one of the beautiful and perfect architectural ensembles of Ancient Russia XVI – XVII century.
At the second part of XVI cent. there was a residence of Ivan the Terrible.
In 1576 year a follower of great culture Ivan Fedorov's work became a printer Andronik Nevezha, who created one of the first printing office in Russia. At this town were living the best architects, icon artists, musicians.
Under Czar yard was working a book – writing studio, the first russian conservatory and first provincial printing were opened there too.
Alexandrov looks as the town of modern technology, one of the largest industrial centers, that don't prevent to be the historical town with unique fate and rich cultural traditions.
Architectural ensemble of Czar yard of Alexandrovskaya Slaboda – is the unique middle age palace complex. This complex was created by Italian and Russian workers, this was the second size building after Moscow Kremlin. As a long years ago, and in present days Alexandrovsky Kremlin impresses his magnificence and mystery. The bright pages of the history of Russia formation come to life in the ancient monuments, stones, colours, and ring sounds.
Uspenskaya church (XVI-XVII) is a house temple of grand duchess. It is not big in size of elegant proportions church, located on ground high white – stone floor, under the ground floor there are the extensive cellarage – are the firm depositories of Moscow tsars treasuries Basil III and Ivan IV. The legend tells, that from these cellarage in XVII century – one could ride on three horses and left without any difficulties the residence.
Troizkiy cathedral (1513 ) - is a palace temple of tsar residence, the most mighty and great construction of Alexandrovskaya Sloboda. The social and political important events took place at these walls. Ivan IV was married with his third and fifth wifes. Outside and inside the temple is decorated with white – stone carving. There is a fresco painting of XVI century in the interior. In the temple's portal are the military salvage of Ivan the Terrible – the severe coppery Tver gates (XIV) and triumphant «gold» Novgorod doors.
Old buildings draw attention of audience not only their construction, but the ancient frescos, dating of XVI century. The temples gates is interesting too. For instance, Troizky's gate was delivered from Tver in 1570 year by oder of Tver bishop. This event connects with Ivan the Terrible campaign on Tver. The south gates having called Vasilievskie, was made in 1336 year in the technic of gold foil. These gates were made by order of Novgorod archbishop Basil. Naturally, the outline face of this archbishop was at the gates. Besides this image, the 28 drawings were placed at the gates, in general in Bible theme. The most individual image is a mythic centaur.
Raspyatskaya church – ring (XVI) – is a dominante of palace complex of Alexandrovskaya Sloboda, unusual in its construction. It was erected in 1560 years after, Ivan the Terrible had moved to Alexander. This church was built in the form of octahedron and reminded a patrol tower. Mighty, turned to the sky ring is considered to be the outstanding work of russian middle age architecture.
Pokrovskaya church (XVI-XVII) is a rare monument of russia middle age architecture, the ancient kernel of this monument is the famous house temple of Ivan IV. Ivan the Terrible spent much time at this temple, thinking about his ruling.
Museum of Marina and Anastasia Zvetaevi. This museum was opened in 1991 year. Since that time, many expositions appeared in this museum, which consists of seven halls. At present time the funds of the museum consist of more than 26 thousands unit keeping and have the collections of the outstanding workers of culture, their works join Alexander region.
The art museum of Alexandrov is placed in old merchant cottage – the unique place of architecture. Estate with sided park - is one of the beautiful places of historical centre of the region. The owner of this estate was the merchant Alexey Pervushin (1829-1902).
Museum's staff take part in learning of history and culture of provincial town.
