Altai
Altai was formed in 1937. Now the Altai Republic is a member of Siberian federal district and is a West-Siberian economic region. The republic consists of 12 cities (including 11 cities of krai subordination), 60 political districts, 14 urban villages, 726 rural administrations and 1 closed administrative and territorial formation, settlement Sibirskiy. In the north and north-west the republic borders upon Altai krai, in the south-west – upon Kazakhstan, in the south – upon China and Mongolia, in the east – upon Tuva and Khakassia, in the north-east – upon Kemerov region. Altai occupies the territory, area of which is 169.1 thousand km². 3.31% of the territory belong to Siberian federal district, and 1% belongs to the Russian Federation.

The Golden Altai
The Altai Republic is situated in the south of Western Siberia. It is the most mountain place of Siberia therefore Mountain Altai is often called “Siberian Switzerland” owing to striking resemblance of Altai mountains with the Swiss Alps which were formerly, before beginning of tourists’ invasion.

Gorno-Altaysk
It is the only town of the republic Altai, which is placed in 5 km from the Katun's bank, near the valley of the river Maima among not high mountain slopes. In 19th century on the place of the town was a small village with a name Ulala (in the translation is meant – mountain slopes).

Plateau Ukok and valley Tchulishman
Plateau Ukok was lost at the turn of borders of Russia and Kazakhstan, China and Mongolia, in the south of Altai, between ridges Taban-Bogdo-ola and South-Tchuisky. The plateau became famous after discovery of barrows with frozen burial places on it.

Barnaul
At the beginning of XX century Barnaul had a population over 650 thousand peoples, with developing infrastructure, modern and beautiful town. It will be interesting to visit many sights of the town for guests, visit theaters and museums, concert halls and meet with architectural monuments.

Biysk – the gate of Mountain Altai
The second size town in Altai region is Biysk, which is situated near river Bii. This is the only town, created by beyond Ural and by the decision of Peter the Great. In 2009 year this town celebrates its birthday of 300 years.

The Aya lake
The Aya lake is placed in 25 km from Gorno-Altaysk on the left bank of the river Katun. It is situated on the ancient terrace, on the height of 280 meters above sea level. This lake is small, and it is hided around mountains slopes. A clint drops off from on side right into the water, on the other side there is a low bank edged trees and bushes.

Mount Belukha
If compares Belukha with other mountains as the Pamirs, Caucasus, so this mount isn't so high as Elbrus – 5633 m. Belukha is a twin-peaked mountain massif that rises along the border of Russia and Kazakhstan. There are several small glaciers on the mountain. Of the two peaks, the eastern peak (4,506 m) is higher than the western peak (4,440 m).
