Essentuki, history and sights
Among resorts of Caucasian Mineral Waters there is a town with an unusual name. An ancient legend narrates about the time when these places were deserted steppe. A young family stayed here for a night. A baby was very feeble: he was often ill, hardly walked and hair don’t almost grow on its delicate head. In the morning the mother saw that the son disappeared and rushed to search. She found him at the spring where the boy washed himself and drank cool tasty water. The baby cheered up, grew strongly and thick, shining hair began to grow on his head in some time. Since that time the legend narrates that people become to call this small river Essentuki, that means “living hair”.

Zheleznovodsk - Cascade stairs, Slavyanovsky spring, Decorative lake
Zheleznovodsk forest park is the only park of natural origin in the Caucasian Mineral Waters. It is a part of forest riches of Beshtaugorskoe forestry. Main wood species of the park are ash-tree, oak. About 1350 sorts of plants, 125 of which are medicinal and 25 – vitamin-containing and used in medical practice, is represented here. Not only flora but also fauna is rich – deer, roe and pheasants are met.

Pyatigorsk - the town resort
Green fund of the city consists of natural forests and cultural plantations – fruit gardens, parks, boulevards, street lining. Forests are wood-shrubby (ash, oak, hornbeam, beech, maple, elm, lime, wahoo, buckthorn, elder, cornel, hawthorn, dog-rose, barberry, mountain ash, birch, azalea, asp, etc.). Forests, rising apart in close vicinity to Pyatigorsk, are covered with forests. The highest mountain is five-headed Beshtau. “Besh” is translated into Russian as “pyat” (“five”), “tau” – as towers of a mountain, hence – name “Pyatigorsk”.

Kislovodsk Sights and the history of the spring
Resting people and guests call it “city of the Sun”. Number of sunny days a year is almost two times as much than in Pyatigorsk or Essentuki. But the main riches and proud of the resort is mineral springs. Narzan – the largest spring of Caucasian Mineral Waters - made Kislovodsk world-famous. From Turkic “nart sane” is translated as “bogatyr’s water”.

The Tsesishoe gorge

The Teberdinsk State reserve
Silence, the air, besoting by freshness and much sun… Fir and spurce branches bend under the weight of the snow which, thawing a little, falls down noisily from time to time, spreading a cloudlet of silvery spray. A fan of uniquely beautiful gorges, stretching to the snowy ridge of the main Caucasian ridge. It seems as if high mountains, covered with forests and emerald meadows, rough rapid waters, fabulously beautiful Alpine lakes, pearl strings of waterfalls, rich flora and various fauna create an animate museum of the nature. It is Teberdin reserve.
