Gus-Hrustalniy
Gus-Hrustalniy is located in the eastern part of Meshcherskaya lowland, on the river Gus, in 63 km to the south from Vladimir. In Russia the town is famous as the center of glass industry. Here there are plants crystal, glass, creolin, reinforced and also the textile combine, where cotton fabrics are produced.
On the whole economics of this place is based on production of crystal, and the town got this name because of it (Hrustalniy means crystal). The first mention of dating this place was in XVII century. In 1756 in the village, out of which the town grew, merchants Maltsevs founded the plant in production of glass. At that time almost all inhabitants worked in it. Then in the middle of XIX century a textile factory is founded. Gus-Hrustalniy got the status of town only in 1931.
The plant in production of crystal works to present day. During the time of its existence it gained the fame of the best in Russia. Numerous purses and awards, received both in All-Russian and in international exhibitions are the evidences of this. On the basis of the plant the museum was established. Here one can see thing, made both of crystal and stained glass including so called “maltsev” vases, which are produced by special technology, known only to the officials of the plant. Its peculiarity – all things are made with use of two- or three-layered crystal with etching.
But Gus – Hrustalniy is not only the crystal factory and unique museum, but it is the monuments of architecture. Georgievskiy cathedral of XIX century is an original decorated element of old russian architecture. Svyato – Troizkiy temple is the temple of XIX century, in which works a church schools. There is a place – the Chapel of St. Varvara, where a lot of old icons are kept.
