Izborsk and environs
This town Izborsk is situated in 30 km from Pskov and famous of historic and architectural nature reserve museum, a stronghold, two museums of defensive architecture and private ethnographic museum enter into the composition of this museum. The enter of the stronghold is free and round – the – clock. It is the first town Izborsk, the mention of which in the Story of the Passing Years, belong to 862 year. In its center, between two temples – church in the name of Sergiy Radonezhsky and Nikolsky cathedral – is placed deputy's yard. There were izbas and trade shops of citizens.
The building date of Nikolsky cathedral is unknown, however the first mention was in 1314 year. Several defensive towers: Nikolskaya, Talavskaya, Lukovka, Kolokolnaya, Ryabinovka, towers Temnushka and Vishka are placed on the same territory. The temple of Sergiy Radonezhsky stand behind south wall of Izborskaya stronghold. It was built in 1701-55 years, on the place of burnt wooden church Sergiy and Nikiandr. In 1797 year the temple was fenced, gate with arched aperture was also placed, which are fine insert into architectural ensemble of construction. At last century it was closed and passed in the museum's property. Here you can meet with sights of church of Virgin Mary, chapels of Flor and Lavr, and some icons. If you come from tower Lukovka along path to Slovenian springs, placed into Izborskaya – Malskaya – valley. It is known that these springs are welled out for thousands years, however the first mention of them was in XVII century. They are famed of curative force, by the legend each of them has it own force, for example, first of them presents a health, second - happiness, third – love. These springs have another name as «The Springs of twelves Apostles». In the village Mala in 4 km from Izborsk, tourists can see the cathedral of the Nativity of Christ, which was built in XVI century.
On the churchyard «Senno» ( in 8km from Izborsk ) is stood a church of Georgy Great Martyr. This place is interesting in architectural buildings and nature. Old chestnuts and cottonwoods grow here and draw attention of visitors. Guides tell visitors about bee keeping and one can train in bee keeping right there. Besides, visitors can taste honey and mead. The owner of this museum G.V. Glazov picked beehives from old to modern. He tells and show his own hand – made beehive, in which the bee of different kinds may live.
