Indian lotus

On the Taman peninsula there is a wonder which it is worth to see. It is Indian lotus. Plantations of Indian lotus are located on Taman in the area of Akhtanozovsky estuary. Indian lotus is the most ancient plant on the earth. An experiment in begetting this wonderful flower in reservoirs of Kuban had been proceeded for over 10 years. In Akhatanizovsky estuary for lotus the most favourable conditions were created: depth is not over 50 cm and warm fresh water.
It is prohibited to pluck flowers, it is allowed to photograph. Lotuses began opening when water in the shoal warms up to 28-30 C and at night it falls to 23 C. Bud is of a size of an adult man’s first. Large flowers of lotus (up to 10-15 cm in diameter) are very beautiful.

A flower remains opened for 10-12 days, then fades, and in its place a large black and brown anthode with seeds emerged. When the speeds ripen, in the anthode holes open, through which speeds spill out into the water. Soft pink petals and bright yellow middle with large stamens and pleasant aroma proudly hold themselves on the height of 20-30 cm above water. The flowers tower above large leaves, reaching 80 cm in diameter. There is a legend that if whisper a loved man’s name into the opened flower of lotus, the name of this man will accompany you the whole life.
